Sonia M'Barek began singing Maluf - traditional Tunisian court music - as a child. She trained in the Tunis conservatory. While rooted in the traditional maluf repertoire, M'Barek steps beyond it. She also pens many of her own compositions, and collaborates with great artists such as Anouar Brahem , Naseer Shamma and Simon Shaheen. Along with Anouar Brahem and Lotfi Bouchnak, she is one of the greatest Tunisian talents. She has won many prizes in Tunisia and France, including the Diapason d'Or for her third CD Takht. In the last decade, she has taken part in many music festivals in the Arab world, in Europe and in the USA .
