Vladimir Putin has vowed to do what he can to prevent Syria from sliding into civil war, but repeated his stance that it's important not to take sides in the conflict. The comments came as the Russian President and the German Chancellor met in Berlin, with Putin on his first series of short visits abroad since he returned to the top job last month.
