Jimi Hendrix - Trashman (Midnight Lightning)

Trashman as it sounded on the 1975 posthumous release, Midnight Lightning, which was produced by Alan Douglas amidst controversy.

It features overdubbing on drums and bass by Allan Schwartzberg and Bob Babbitt, respectively.

Alan Douglas' removal of the original drum and bass tracks is offensive to most Hendrix purists, but I urge you to compare this 3min version to the 7min version found only on the Hear My Music and Valleys of Neptune (Target version) albums.

Personally, I prefer this version because I feel the bass and drums on the original are very anemic. The bass, especially, seems to meander in a totally different direction than Hendrix, whereas I feel the overdubs compliment and expound upon Hendrix's brilliant guitar playing.

For purposes of direct comparison I edited the 7min version of the song to nearly the exact same length as this one. You might find it fun to listen and compare the two. The edited version can be found here:

Thank you to Jimi, the Hendrix family, and even Alan Douglas for bringing these releases to us -- whichever versions you prefer.
